How it works

- 2 Press space after each word The space bar commits the current word and moves you to the next one. Wrong letters turn red as you type, so you can correct them before committing.

Frequently asked questions
- How is WPM calculated?
- The standard formula: one 'word' is five characters. Net WPM counts only the characters of words you typed correctly (plus one space per word), divided by five, divided by the minutes elapsed. Raw WPM counts every character you typed, right or wrong.
- What is a good typing speed?
- The average is around 40 WPM. Above 60 WPM is good for most office work, 80+ is fast, and professional typists reach 100–120 WPM. Competitive typists exceed 150 WPM on short bursts.
- What counts as an accuracy mistake?
- Every character compared against the target word: a wrong letter, a missing letter at commit time, or an extra letter all count against accuracy. Accuracy is correct characters divided by all typed characters.
- Can I fix a typo before committing a word?
- Yes. Backspace works normally within the current word — only what the word looks like when you press space is scored. Fixing mistakes costs time though, which is the real trade-off the test measures.
- Why do 30-second tests show higher WPM than 2-minute tests?
- Short bursts favour peak speed, while longer runs measure endurance and consistency — fatigue and lapses in concentration pull the average down. For an honest picture of your everyday speed, use the 1- or 2-minute run.
- Is my typing recorded or uploaded?
- No. The word list is generated in your browser and every keystroke is processed locally. Nothing is stored or transmitted, and closing the tab erases the whole session.
