Paste text and have it read aloud with your browser's built-in voices. Choose a voice, adjust speed, pitch, and volume, then press play. Everything runs on your device using the Web Speech API — nothing is uploaded, so it works even for private notes and long documents.

How it works

  1. 1
Enter your text Type or paste the words you want read aloud into the text box. There is no character limit — long passages are read sentence by sentence.
  2. 2
Pick a voice and settings Choose one of the voices your device offers, then set the speaking rate, pitch, and volume with the sliders.
  3. 3
Press Speak Click Speak to start playback. Use Pause and Resume to control it, or Stop to reset. The estimated duration updates as you type.

Your data stays private

All processing happens entirely in your browser. No files, text, or data are ever sent to our servers. You can disconnect from the internet and this tool will still work.

Frequently asked questions

Is the text to speech free?
Yes, completely. There is no signup, no watermark, no daily limit, and no paid tier. The tool uses the speech engine already built into your browser and operating system.
Which voices are available?
The list comes from your device, so it depends on your operating system and browser. Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Chrome each ship different voices — install more from your system settings to expand the list.
Does my text get uploaded anywhere?
No. Speech is generated locally by the Web Speech API. The words you enter never leave your browser, which makes this safe for private, sensitive, or unpublished text.
Can I download the audio as an MP3?
Not directly. Browsers expose speech playback but not a way to save it as a file, so there is no MP3 export. You can record your device's audio output with separate software if you need a file.
Why does long text stop early in some browsers?
Chrome has a long-standing quirk that cuts off a single long utterance after about 15 seconds. This tool works around it by splitting your text into sentence-sized chunks and playing them in sequence.
Why is no sound playing?
Check that your volume is up and the tab is not muted. On mobile, playback sometimes needs a tap first. If the voice list is empty, your browser may still be loading voices — wait a second and try again.
