Where the rates come from
When the page loads, the tool downloads one public exchange-rate table (from the open.er-api.com API, with frankfurter.dev as a fallback). The amounts you type and the currencies you pick never leave your browser — every conversion is calculated locally on your device.
Frequently asked questions
- Where do the exchange rates come from?
- Rates are loaded from the free open.er-api.com service, which aggregates central-bank reference rates (including the European Central Bank) and refreshes them once a day. If that service is unreachable, the tool falls back to frankfurter.dev, which publishes ECB reference rates.
- How current are the rates?
- Rates refresh once per day, and the exact update time is shown under the result. Daily reference rates are accurate enough for planning, invoicing, and price comparison, but not for timing currency trades.
- Will I get exactly this amount at a bank or exchange office?
- No. Banks, card networks, and exchange offices add a margin (typically 1–5%) on top of the mid-market reference rate shown here. Use this tool to see the fair mid-market value, then compare it with what you are actually offered.
- How many currencies are supported?
- Over 160 world currencies — every major currency (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY) plus regional ones from the Albanian lek to the Zambian kwacha. The exact list comes from the rates API and is grouped into Popular and All in the dropdowns.
- Is the conversion done on a server?
- No. Your browser downloads the day's rate table once, and all math happens locally. The amounts you type are never sent anywhere, and nothing is logged.
